A Thousand Acres

A Thousand Acres is a melodrama, almost but not quite a tearjerker, about the relationship between a father and his three daughters in the Midwest.
The farmer og tyrannical patriarch Larry Cook decides to withdraw and split his thousand acres equally between his daughters. It would seem a wise decision, but enmity, accusations of incest and power struggle ensue.
Michelle Pfeiffer and Jessica Lange have good parts, but the portrayal of the male characters is rather one-dimensional. In a word, they are all bastards.
