Cookie's Fortune

Cookie's Fortune is an ensemble movie like many of director Robert Altman's other great movies, eg. "The Player" and "Short Cuts", but compared to those Cookie's Fortune is told in a more laid-back style.
The old widow Cookie is so world-weary that she commits suicide. When her niece, the meddling niece Camille finds her, she camouflages the suicide as a murder because suicide is a disgrace in an honorable family in the Deep South where the story takes place. Camille does not consider for a moment that someone will have to take the rap for the 'murder'.
Cookie's Fortune is a charming, offbeat mixture of a crime story and a low-key comedy full of colourful, excentric characters.
