Notting Hill

Notting Hill is a charming, romantic comedy written by Richard Curtis, the screenwriter of the hit comedy "Four Weddings and a Funeral". That film is about an American woman of the world and an ordinary Brit who probably ought not to fall in love with each other, but do even though they are worlds apart. The story in Notting Hill is similar, and Hugh Grant is playing more or less the same character as he did in the first movie.
It is in Notting Hill, a London neighbourhood, that William Thacker (Grant) meets Anna Scott for the first time. He owns a small travel bookshop while she is a famous film star. They meet again by coincidence and again and again and again, but does their love stand a chance?
Notting Hill is not nearly as good as "Four Weddings and a Funeral", but it was so entertaining that I did not notice - until later - that there is practically no story at all. Julia Roberts plays herself. The similarities between the real movie star and the movie star of the movie are many - something that Michael J. Fox also tried in "The Hard Way".
