The Negotiator

The Negotiator is one of many proofs that the Americans excel at making action-packed, technically flawless thrillers. Yet, the genre seems to have come to a standstill. The stories are only variations of the same formulas.
The negotiator has quite an ingenious variation, though. It is about a policeman, Danny Roman, who negociates with hostage takers and who is very good at his job. When Danny is wrongfully accused of having murdered his partner, Nate, he claims he is being framed, but nobody listens. In order to make people hear him out, Danny takes four hostages. The roles are switched!
The film is never boring, but it would be better off if it didn't play for more than two hours.
Prolific character actor J. T. Walsh's last film.
