The Crow

A short while before the wedding between Eric, a young rock musician, and his fiancée, they are brutally killed by a gang of criminals. A year later Eric rises from the grave. Accompanied by a magic crow Eric avenges himself and his fiancée on the murderers. He is a living dead with supernatural powers. He can't be stopped unless his Achilles' Heel is revealed.
Forget about realism when watching The Crow because the story clearly takes place in the realm of the fantastic. This is indicated by the supernatural elements and the black and white characters among other things. This stylish and engaging action drama is enveloped by an air of tragedy which is only furthered by the dark and futuristic inner city setting. Yet, it can be argued that such a simple tale that takes itself completely seriously and maybe too seriously is felt to be a bit ridiculous in our postmodern time.
