One Eight Seven

At the beginning of One Eight seven Trevor Garfield, an idealistic teacher, is stabbed by a vengeful students of his. Garfield survives.
More than a year later Garfield has moved from New York to Los Angeles, where he takes up teaching again. Yet, violent and unruly students are not limited to New York high school, so how does Garfield decide to tackle the problem this time?
One Eight Seven is "Dangerous Minds" with Michelle Pfeiffer turned upside down. One Eight Seven denies the optimism and easy solutions of "Dangerous Minds". Maybe it is because Scott Yagemann, the scriptwriter, is a teacher himself. Yagemann is probably familiar with the problems of violence in schools, but why does he discard reality in his script? Must a discussion of violence in schools and teacher-student relations necessarily be combined with the thriller genre?
