Godzilla

In the wake of Steven Spielberg's "Jurassic Park" and "The Lost World" it was inevitable that sooner or later Hollywood would want to make the Japanese reptile monster Godzilla their own.
In Roland Emmerich's and Dean Devlin's story Godzilla goes to town, that is New York, where it lays its eggs. Both Godzilla and the eggs must be destroyed as nobody is interested in a whole new population of godzillas.
This monster film is first of all a technical feat. It is also entertaining and funny, but we have seen it all before. Whether the filmmakers are using the numerous clichs on purpose or it is just due to lack of imagination is hard to tell, but seeing that they do not have anything new to add, why does the film have to last almost two and a half hours?
