Mother Night

Mother Night is an adaptation of a Kurt Vonnegut novel about an American dramatist, Howard Campbell, who writes successful plays for his beautiful wife, the actress Helga Noth, in Berlin in the 30s. During WW2 Campbell works as a radiospeaker for the Ministry of Propaganda, but he and only a few others know that his programmes contain secret messages for the Allied. When the war is over, Campbell faces a serious problem: people only know him as a racist demagogue.
Mother Night raises an intelligent question: if you play a part long enough, do you eventually become that part?
Satire and serious drama go hand in hand in this thought-provoking, but not very uplifting film!
