Who's That Knocking at My Door?

Who's That Knocking at My Door? is both the director Martin Scorsese's feature debut and Harvey Keitel's acting debut on film.
Keitel plays J.R., a young man of Italian descent, who doesn't do much apart from hanging around with his pals. J.R.s Catholic faith turns out to be a major force in his life when he meets a sweet and intelligent girl he falls in love with. His fixed view of women as either whores or Madonnas endangers their relationship when she reveals that she is the innocent he believed her to be.
The story of J.R. and his girlfriend is by far the most interesting part of the film. Scorsese spends overmuch time describing J.R.s relationship to his friends. It doesn't add much to the portrayal of him; in fact it is rather boring. The film might have been better off as a short feature.
