Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a Chinese adventure movie. It has romance, masterly martial arts sequences, exotic scenery and even scenes of tranquility and quiet conversation, but do not expect a drama of great psychological depth. This is intelligent and colourful entertainment.
The intricate story takes place at the beginning of the 20th century. The wuxia warrior Li Mu Bai decides to retire so he entrusts his magic sword to his friend and colleague Shu Lien. She gives the sword into Mr Te's charge when she arrives in Peking, but shortly after it is stolen.
Shu Lien suspects the governor's pretty daughter Jen of the theft, but she and Li Mu Bai soon realize that Jen is not their biggest problem. Their real enemy is Jen's teacher, the vindictive Jade fox.
