A Merry War

Amusing satire about the would-be poet Gordon Comstock in London in the 1930s. Gordon is a successful copywriter, but he scorns his middle-class existence so he quits his job in advertising to become a full-time poet.
His publisher Ravelston and his girlfriend Rosemary do not approve of Gordon's decision as they doubt that he can make a living from writing. How can Gordon and Rosemary ever marry if he cannot support a family?
A Merry War never really manages to hold the audience's attention, maybe because it is impossible to fully identify with Comstock (Richard E. Grant in an over-the-top performance) and his hardships.
