In the Name of the Father

In the Name of the Father is an indignant and emotional story about Gerry Conlon whose autobiography the film is based upon.
In the mid-70s Gerry Conlon and three of his friends were convicted of a terrible bombing in a London pub, but in fact their only crime was that they were Catholics from Northern Ireland and happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.
The film is not just a story of how a wrong was righted. It is also a story about a reckless and irresponsible petty thief who grows into a determined, intelligent adult.
This is a powerful and gripping film, but it could have been even better, if Jim Sheridan had left out some of the superfluous scenes from the prison.

Jim Sheridan
