The Haunting is a masterly showcase for digital special effects, but it also demonstrates that it takes more than just impressive special effects to make a good film; for instance a good script, which is exactly what The Haunting lacks.
The Haunting is an adaptation of a horror novel by Shirley Jackson, "The Haunting of Hill House". Hill House is a gothic mansion where Dr. Marrow will be spending the weekend together with three young people who have volunteered for his study of insomnia. In fact, Dr. Marrow's real field of study is fear, which he gets plenty of opportunities to study, because Hill House is definitely haunted - and not just by friendly ghosts!
